Biography

Professor Stanislav Štech, PhDr, CSc. graduated in psychology from the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. Since 1983, he has been based at the Faculty of Education, Charles University, where he has served as a Professor of Educational Psychology since 2007. At the same institution, he headed the Department of Psychology for 17 years and held the position of Vice-Rector of Charles University from 2003 to 2015.

He possesses extensive experience from international academic institutions, including research institutes in Paris and Rome. Between 2018 and 2022, he served as a member of the UNESCO SDG-Education 2030 Steering Committee, and from 2004 to 2014, he was an institutional member of the Steering Committee for the OECD programme on Institutional Management in Higher Education (IMHE). He is the author of over 120 professional publications and has supervised 11 successful doctoral students.

In the field of public administration, he served as a Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT) and, in 2017, as the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. For his services to education, he was awarded the rank of Officer of the Order of Academic Palms (Ordre des Palmes académiques) by the French government in 2011. In 2018, he was awarded the Gold Commemorative Medal of Charles University, and in 2024, he received the Jiří Hoskovec Prize for extraordinary contributions to the field of psychology.
